Liberal Arts Envoys Accepting Applications for 2012-2013

The Liberal Arts Envoys Program, which is a student ambassador organization for the College of the Liberal Arts, is currently accepting applications for the 2012-13 academic year. 

The Liberal Arts Envoys serve as representatives for the College of the Liberal Arts in a variety of capacities. Envoys support the office of Liberal Arts Undergraduate Studies through participation in recruitment-related and other student-focused events throughout the year. Envoys also provide student representatives for on-campus events hosted by the College's office of Alumni Relations and Development, and lead tours for alumni returning to campus. Essentially, the Envoys represent the College to prospective students, their families, alumni, and other members of the College's community.

To apply to the Liberal Arts Envoys program, submit a completed application form and a copy of your resume to psuenvoys@gmail.com by November 26, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.

LAUC Major/Minor Speed Dating Event

The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council (LAUC) will host a Major/Minor Speed Dating event on Monday, November 5, 2012, at 5:00 p.m., in 103 Findlay Commons (East Halls).  This informal event is an opportunity for all students to explore prospective areas of study by talking with faculty and student representatives from a variety of academic departments within the College of the Liberal Arts.

If you are interested in learning more about a major or minor within the College, be sure to stop by to have your questions answered and to discover what a particular field of study is really like from current students, professors, and advisers!

Now that you have been to the fall career fair and narrowed down your list of companies to apply for, you may be wondering what to do next.

It is the perfect time to start preparing for your interviews! After all, the interview is what lands you the job/internship, and effective interview skills can be learned through constant practice.

Starting this fall, the Liberal Arts Career Enrichment Network will be collaborating with Career Services to facilitate a mock interview program specifically for Liberal Arts majors. The interview will be one hour in length - about 30 minutes for your interview and then 30 minutes for personalized feedback and suggestions on your responses.

LAUC Trivia Night March 22

You are officially invited to join the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council for a night of fun, laughter, and a little bit of trivia at their 2011 Trivia Night! LAUC will be hosting its Trivia Night on March 22nd at 7:30 p.m. in room 129A & B of the HUB. The event will kick off with a free and delicious dinner. Dinner will be followed by a challenging trivia game, and the categories will include general knowledge, Penn State history, and current events. The winning team will be awarded small prizes.

Space is limited, so sign up before the teams and tables are full! There is space for 8 teams of 6 people. If you would like to partake in Trivia Night, just send Amanda Craig an email at abc5126@psu.edu. In your email, include your name and the names of up to five additional teammates as well as email addresses. Keep in mind, you can sign up solo, and be easily placed on a team. Please respond to this invitation by March 18, 2010.

Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council Announces Creation of Liberal Arts Envoys Program

The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council, in cooperation with College of the Liberal Arts is proud to announce a new program for Liberal Arts undergraduates. The Liberal Arts Envoys program will be a student ambassador program for the College of the Liberal Arts.

The Liberal Arts Envoys will serve as representatives for the College of the Liberal Arts in a variety of capacities. Envoys will support the Office of Undergraduate Studies though participation in recruitment related events and other student focused events throughout the year. In addition to working with the Office of Undergraduate Studies, Envoys will provide student representatives for on campus events hosted by the College's Office of Alumni Relations and Development. Envoys will also provide tours for alumni returning to campus. Essentially, the Envoys will represent the College to prospective students, their families, alumni, and other members of the College's community.

Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council President, Geoff Halberstadt, sees excellent opportunities for the Envoys program. "Liberal Arts students who participate in the Envoys program will benefit tremendously. They will have the opportunity to interact with alumni, showcase the College to prospective students, and gain valuable professional experience while doing so. Ethical leadership, excellent interpersonal communication, and public speaking are all skills that Envoys will develop and use as part of their experience."

The Liberal Arts Envoys program will be administered by the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council, as the liaison between the College and undergraduates. Liberal Arts Major and Minor Speed Dating Night

On Tuesday, February 8 at 6 p.m. the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council and the College of the Liberal Arts will host a Liberal Arts Major and Minor Speed Dating event in 131 HUB (turn left by the big TV).

Liberal Arts Major and Minor Speed Dating will be a fun and informational way for students picking their major, contemplating a change of major, selecting a concurrent major, or adding a minor to learn more about major and minor programs in the College. Students and advisers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. So come out and speed date with some of Penn State's most interesting and diverse majors and minors, including: Economics, Labor Studies and Employment Relations, Sociology, Anthropology, Women's Studies, Communication Arts and Sciences, English, Psychology, Jewish Studies, German, Linguistics, and Latin American Studies.

LAUC to Host Law School Event December 2

Interested in law school? The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council will be hosting an informational event for students interested in pursuing a law degree one day. The audience will be hearing from two representatives from the Penn State Dickinson School of Law.

Professor Michelle Vollmer will be the events first speaker. A graduate of Duke University Law School, consistently ranked as a top tier law school by U.S News, Profess...or Vollmer worked for the U.S Securities and Exchange Commision before teaching law. During that time, she worked as an advocate against ENRON while the company was on trial for money laundering, fraud, conspiracy, insider trading, and other crimes. Professor Vollmer will be highlighting the importance and flexibility of lawyers, as well as a week long summer program that Penn State law offers undergraduates.

The events second speaker will be Penn State Law Dean of Admissions, Jay Shively. Dean Shively will be there to speak about the law school admissions process, what makes a competitive law school applicant, and what sort of financial aid is available to prospective law students.

Students will be permitted to ask any questions they have of either speaker.

This event will be held in 121 Sparks on Thursday, December 2nd, at 6pm. Don't be late!
